4 Steps Wish Granting Process
First Step - Wish Referral
The Make A Dream Come True Society accepts
to help, if possible, wish referrals from one of
several potential referral sources:
1. A medical professional, such as a doctor,
nurse, or social worker
2. Referral from community/other wish granting
agencies
If the initial call comes from someone other than
those listed above, we will contact the applicant
directly to confirm the wish request.
Second Step – Determining Eligibility
Any adult with a life-threatening illness may be
eligible for a wish. The applicant must submit an
application. The applicant must be able to
identify a wish and cannot have received a prior
wish from a wish-granting organization. The
applicant's treating physician makes the final
determination of whether he/she is medically
eligible and able to participate in the wish.
Third Step – Identifying the Wish
After the doctor confirms that the applicant is
medically eligible; the Make A Dream Come
True Society assigns a volunteer wish team to
coordinate the wish evaluation process. When a
wish team first visit with the applicant, the
volunteers begin by asking a simple question: "If
you could have one wish, what would it be?"
Usually, wishes are limited only by an applicant's
imagination. Most wishes fall into one of four
categories: "I want to go to . . .," "I want to be . .
.," "I want to meet . . .," or "I want to have . . . ."
Fourth Step – Granting the Wish
Once the society approves the applicant's wish,
the wish fulfillment team sets out to assist in
organizing/funding the wish experience for the
applicant. When necessary, one caregiver may
accompany the terminally ill adult on his/her
dream.Please insert your text here.
